Net-Top-Box Updates

Your Net-Top-Box can update itself automatically but this feature is turned off by default. Follow the instructions below depending on whether you want to update automatically or manually. This product uses Open Source software. Full details of the software licenses and source code are provided on ONELAN’s Open Source Repository page.

Recommendations

We advise before installing updates across your entire network to install the updates on a single device to ensure it does not effect your playlists, layouts or channels. All our releases have been comprehensively tested across all devices but however occupationally unforeseen issues may occur. It is for this reason that the best practice is to test the update before rolling it out across your network. If you have any specific questions about the update or require help installing the files, please contact our support team. 

Auto Update

The following procedure only needs to be done once per Net-Top-Box in your network:
  1. Log into the Net-Top-Box and go to Setup> Maintenance & Troubleshooting>Software Updates>Settings Tab.
  2. Click “Automatically download and install updates”
  3. Select a time when no one will be watching the screen for the allowed reboot time
  4. Select a time period when no one will be using the Net-Top-Box for the allowed download times
  5. Set the “Server URL” to: http://updates.onelan.com/software_update/ the factory-shipped URL may be incorrect.
  6. Tick “Use Proxy” if the Net-Top-Box needs to use one (Ask your network Administrator for advice)
  7. If the above procedure has already been done then your Net-Top-Box should have downloaded and installed the latest available software.

Manual Updates

Using the table below, click on the NTB version you are currently using. This will provide you with step by step instructions to updating your NTB to the latest version compatible with your hardware.


Select the version of NTB you are currently running:

V11.1.0 to V11.1.3

NTB updates can only be installing in set increments. Please therefore follow the instructions below. You may need to install multiple updates.

 

  1. If using Internet Explorer then check that it did not rename the file, if it ends in “.tar” then change it to “.opf”.
  2. Browse to Setup>Maintenance & Troubleshooting>Software Updates> Manual Update tab on the NTB.
  3. Click the “Browse…” button and locate the OPF file that you have just downloaded.
  4. Click the “Upload” button and wait for the file to upload to the Net-Top-Box.
  5. Do not browse away from the page during the upload. Be patient if the browser appears to freeze at the end of the upload.
  6. When the upload is complete, do NOT pull the power cable out or turn off the electricity until the update process is complete.
  7. Click the “Reboot” link to restart the Net-Top-Box, this may take up to 20 minutes.
  8. After the Net-Top-Box has rebooted it will be running the new software.
  9. Find the version number on in the tabs on the left of this page and repeat all the steps above until the Net-Top-Box is running the latest software.

V10.2.8 to V11.0.x

NTB updates can only be installing in set increments. Please therefore follow the instructions below. You may need to install multiple updates.

 

  1. If using Internet Explorer then check that it did not rename the file, if it ends in “.tar” then change it to “.opf”.
  2. Browse to Setup>Maintenance & Troubleshooting>Software Updates> Manual Update tab on the NTB.
  3. Click the “Browse…” button and locate the OPF file that you have just downloaded.

  5. Do not browse away from the page during the upload. Be patient if the browser appears to freeze at the end of the upload.
